Sydney

We arrived in Sydney on Mardy Gras; it was a long drive from the airport to our downtown hotel near circular quay (Shangri La). On our first night we ate at the bar in our hotel and at the table close to our sat two men who were trying to entertain their “girlfriends”, who were definetly whores. The views of the harbour and the bridge were wonderfull, though. However, we were tired and went to bed early.

Here in Sydney we bought a Didgereedoo, it is not too difficult to get a sound out of it but to play it right you need a technique called “circular breathing” which is not easy to learn. They tried to teach us, but, unfortunately, to no avail.

We had booked a tour, via internet, to the blue mountains. We had to get onto a bus that took us there; it was a long drive with a garrulous driver who tried to talk as much “strine” as possible. He gave us much “priceless” (euphemism for worthless) information about everything.

Well, he took us to the Jenolan Caves in the blue mountains; interesting, but all caves are very similar in my opinion, and therefore, it was not exceptionally exciting.

In Sydney we only had time to visit the Circular Quay and Manly, which are both definetly worth it. We also climbed Sydney Harbour Bridge, an unforgettable experience. The “loo with a view”, a restaurant on the 42nd floor is also worth visiting, albeit expensive. But the loo does have a view...

Pouring rain in Sydney

Sidney harbour bridge in rainy weather; you can just imagine poeple at the summit of the “coat hanger”.

The opera

A view from the opera to circular quay.

Just opposite of circular quay. It's where the prime minister lives.

One of the fast ferries.

Views from the botanical garden near the opera.

They have all kinds of plants here, including herbs.

These birds are indigenous here.

Playing the Didgereedoo

The touristic railway they took us to.

The blue mountains are really blue. It is probably due to evaporation of oil from the eucalyptus trees.

Caves are very much alike, everyone has some spectacular views.

The blue mountains. The air above the trees appears blue owing to evaporated oils of the eucalyptus trees.

One night in sydney, starting off at a bar at circular quay.

Tomorrow we shall take one of these ferries...

Views from the ferry to Manly.

Manly really is a nice place, with walks along the shore, the beach, or the cliffs.

Our last night in Australia. These are views from “the loo with a view”, a restaurant on the 42nd floor where you really do have a view from the loo.

I hope we get the chance to come back.
